Kindness

We win by tenderness. We conquer by forgiveness.   Frederick W. Robertson

Constant kindness can accomplish much. As the sun makes ice melt, kindness causes misunderstanding, mistrust, and hostility to evaporate.   Albert Schweitzer

He that is kind is free, though he is a slave; he that is evil is a slave, though he be a king.   Augustine

If you want to be holy, be kind.   Frederick Buechner

Write injuries in sand, kindnesses in marble.   Unknown Authors

Kind words produce their own image in men’s souls; and a beautiful image it is. They soothe and quiet and comfort the hearer. They shame him out of his sour, morose, unkind feelings. We have not yet begun to use kind words in such abundance as they ought to be used.   Blaise Pascal

Kindness makes a person attractive. If you would win the world, melt it, do not hammer it.   Alexander MacLaren

I shall pass through this world but once. Any good thing therefore that I can do, or any kindness that I can show to any human being, let me do it now. Let me not defer it or neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again.   Henry Drummond

I choose kindness… I will be kind to the poor, for they are alone. Kind to the rich, for they are afraid. And kind to the unkind, for such is how God has treated me.   Max Lucado

Have you ever noticed how much of Christ’s life was spent in doing kind things?   Henry Drummond

Never let a problem to be solved become more important than a person to be loved.    Barbara Johnson

Kindness is loving people more than they deserve.    Joseph Joubert

God does not comfort us to make us comfortable only, but to make us comforters.    Dr. John Henry J. H. Jowett

We all need love, but we need it most when we deserve it least–when we have sinned against someone, when we have made poor choices, when we have failed. In these situations, ordinary love must become extra-ordinary love.    Barbara Rosberg

The “least of my brethren” are the hungry and the lonely, not only for food, but for the Word of God; the thirsty and the ignorant not only for water, but also for knowledge, peace, truth, justice and love; the naked and the unloved, not only for clothes but also for human dignity; the unwanted; the unborn child; the racially discriminated against; the homeless and abandoned, not only for a shelter made of bricks, but for a heart that understands, that covers, that loves; the sick, the dying destitutes, and the captives, not only in body, but also in mind and spirit; all those who have lost all hope and faith in life; the alcoholics and dying addicts and all those who have lost God (for them God was but God is) and who have lost all hope in the power of the Spirit.    Mother Teresa

The poorest of the poor are those who feel that they are unloved.    Mother Teresa

It is the duty of every Christian to be Christ to his neighbour.    Martin Luther

There is a grace of kind listening, as well as a grace of kind speaking. Many persons, whose manners will stand the test of speaking, break down under the trial of listening. But all these things should be brought under the sweet influences of religion.   Frederick W. Faber

Forget injuries, never forget kindnesses.   Confucius

The only way to tell the truth is to speak with kindness. Only the words of a loving man can be heard.    Henry David Thoreau

The greatest thing a man can do for his Heavenly Father is to be kind to some of His other children.   Henry Drummond

The first question which the priest and the Levite asked was: “If I stop to help this man, what will happen to me?” But the good Samaritan reversed the question: “If I do not stop to help this man, what will happen to him?”   Martin Luther King, Jr.

The gospel of a broken heart demands the ministry of bleeding hearts…We can never heal the needs we do not feel. Tearless hearts can never be heralds of the passion. We must pity if we would redeem. We must bleed if we would be ministers of the saving blood.    Dr. John Henry J. H. Jowett

The Christian faith is meant to be lived moment by moment. It isn’t some broad, general outline–it’s a long walk with a real Person. Details count: passing thoughts, small sacrifices, a few encouraging words, little acts of kindness, brief victories over nagging sins.   Joni Eareckson Tada

To cultivate kindness is a valuable part of the business of life.   Samuel Johnson

It’s unfortunate and I really wish I wouldn’t have to say this, but I really like human beings who have suffered.   They are kinder.   Emma Thompson

Let no one ever come to you without leaving better and happier. Be the living expression of God’s kindness; kindness in your face, kindness in your eyes, kindness in your smile.    Mother Teresa

I prefer you to make mistakes in kindness than work miracles in unkindness.   Mother Teresa

A man who is wrathful with us is a sick man; we must apply a plaster to his heart – love; we must treat him kindly, speak to him gently, lovingly. And if there is not deeply-rooted malice against us within him, but only a temporary fit of anger, you will see how his heart, or his malice, will melt away through your kindness and love – how good will conquer evil. A Christian must always be kind, gracious, and wise in order to conquer evil by good.    John of Kronstadt

May I become at all times, both now and forever
A protector for those without protection
A guide for those who have lost their way
A ship for those with oceans to cross
A bridge for those with rivers to cross
A sanctuary for those in danger
A lamp for those without light
A place of refuge for those who lack shelter
And a servant to all in need.   Anonymous

  1. Bryan – These kindness quotes are wonderful. I taught an adult Sunday School class on kindness last year. “The Lord’s kindness leads us to repentance….” Wish I would have had a few of these quotes. Our kindness to others breaks down walls just like the Lord’s kindness does to sinners.
